Annual Concerto competition

2013 Boston Youth Concerto Competition

Eligibility:

Age must be 17 years or younger on November 31st, 2013

Competition is open to the following instruments: woodwinds, brass, strings, and piano.

The winner of the competition must be available to perform with the Greater Boston Asian American Youth Symphony Orchestra for Summer concert 2014 and Music For Food Benefit Concert.

The winner must attend three rehearsals with orchestra and dress rehearsal for the concert.

 

Repertoire:

One movement from a standard concerto for their instrument or a similar work. Orchestral accompaniment must be available for the work. Greater Boston Asian American Youth Symphony Orchestra, however, reserves the right to refuse a work based on availability of orchestration parts.

The work is to be memorized. Contestants must provide their own accompanist.

Maximum length should not exceed 15 minutes. Minimum length should be 4 minutes.

After the entry has been received, repertoire changes will not be permitted without approval from the Music Director of the GBAAYSO.

Contestants should provide the judges with a copy of the sheet music they are performing.

 

Application Requirements: Application form, DVD with accompaniment, and nonrefundable fee $30, make payable to GBAAYSO, copy of birth certificate. All materials must be postmarked by November 26th, 2013

Notification of finalists: Applicants will be notified of acceptance into the competition via

email no later than 1st

 

Awards:

First Place – A performance as featured soloist with Greater Boston Asian American Youth Symphony Orchestra and a cash prize of $300.

Second Place – A performance with piano accompaniment at the Music For Food Benefit Concert and cash prize of $200.

Third Place – A performance with piano accompaniment at the Music For Food Benefit Concert, and cash prize of $100.

- Proof of age: photocopy of birth certificate or passport . DO NOT SEND ORIGINALS.

- A non-refundable application fee of $30 (for each category entered) made payable to: Greater Boston Asian American Youth Symphony Orchestra. It will not be refunded in the case of a contestant’s withdrawal.

- Unedited DVD for your performance
